Like a weed

He's been busy...

growing teeth...

one and a half to be exact...

just being cute...
learning funny faces...

growing his mohawk (all natural courtesy of his double crown).

and...being MOBILE!!!

Hudson has been busy too. Busy trying to give me a mental breakdown. He's testing his boundaries by doing the exact opposite of what we ask of him. I'm scared for the teenage years.

Murphy's Law

Your child will get sick at the most inopportune time.

Everyone warned me that once Hudson started school, he would get sick a lot the first year. It's not surprising, considering there are almost 20 kids in his preschool. 20 kids all playing with the same toys. 20 kids = a gazillion germs.

Anyway, to make a long story short, Hudson has been out of commission with a double ear infection since last week. He's been dealing with pain in both ears, an ongoing fever, the runs (side effect from his antibiotics), loss of appetite, loss of hearing, and body aches. Poor baby.

As a result...we missed:

1. MY volunteer day at his school (each student's parent is responsible to "help" the teachers once a month). I totally wanted to spy on Hudson flirting with Emma...the girl he can't stop talking about.

2. The Welcome Potluck Party at his school (who doesn't love a smorgasbord of free finger foods?!?)

3. And most of all...a weekend roadtrip to Toronto (for a wedding of an old family friend and getting to hang out with my two favorite boys over the age of 4, besides my husband). Note: this is the second time I haven't been able to wear this amazing green dress for a special occasion that got nixed.

He couldn't have gotten sick any other, typical week, when we've got nothing planned.

Like I've said before...kids are party poopers.

Look at the fun we missed!!! My beautiful niece, sister, and mama in all their drunkeness silliness.

End of Summer

It's been a long time since I last blogged. A lot has happened, and since pictures say a thousand words...here's what we've been up to:

Sneak peak of the middle of reno's of our "Kitty House" (you won't believe what a difference there is since this picture was taken!) Blood, sweat, and tears have literally gone into this huge endeavor...Rob spent the entire day and night in emergency yesterday after sawing the tip of his thumb off. Ew, just the thought makes me queasy. HE HAD TO GET STITCHES THROUGH HIS THUMBNAIL. THROUGH THE NAIL!!! nasty.

Brotherly love. Devin adores Hudson. And vice versa...most of the time.

My mom turned 70!

Our Trio, but wishing we were a Quartet (MOVE BACK AUDREY!)

Family brunch in honor of my mother.

Devin turned 7 months! And strangely appears to have stopped sucking his thumb sometime after this picture was taken.

And most importantly...Hudson started preschool! That deserves a post all on it's own...so stay tuned.

it's the little things...

I found these secondhand glass/chrome kitchen cabinet knobs on sale on Kijiji. They were selling 37 of them, and were asking $60. After sending a quick email to my SIL who is amazing at designing, she confirmed that they were 1. nice and 2. a great deal.
I picked them up today...plus got an extra one they had found (38 in total) for $50.
I loved them. They will add a little extra bling to my teeny kitchen.
Then I came home and googled them by manufacturer...
and fell in love with them even more...
I saved a whooping $300 US!!!

Joyce the Spaz

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes see a single shoe lying in the middle of the road? I used to. I used to wonder how and why it got there.

I can now answer that question.

Because much to my husband's dismay...I'm kinda spazzy. I think sometimes he likes it about me. And sometimes he really doesn't.

Rob was about to leave the house to run some errands, when I invited myself and our two boys to tag along. He had one foot out the door, when I told him to wait one minute so we could get ready and keep him company. Wellll....you know how long it takes to get two little boys ready, right? NOT one minute. It takes several minutes. You have to make sure they've peed (in Devin's case, make sure his diaper is clean). You have to make sure you've got extra diapers, wipes, clothes, toys...etc to bring with you just in case. You have to wipe their mouths clean of dried bits of food so they don't look redneck. All this preparing takes about 20 minutes. That's 19 minutes longer than you've told your husband. 19 minutes is longer than your husband wants to wait.

So he was already kinda grumbly when we eventually left the house. Then...as we're driving along...a bug flies into our car. Remember how I don't like bugs? I spazzily remove my shoe and try to shoo the bug out the window. And because I'm acting like a spaz...I flung my shoe right out! Then I had to turn to my already grumbling husband, and tell him I just dropped my shoe out the window. Oh fun times. He's so not impressed. And Hudson is in the back, repeatedly asking why I've thrown my shoe out the window. So grumbling husband had to pull over the car...motion for the cars behind us to pass us...and I had to run into the road, with one bare foot, to retrieve my lost shoe.

When I got back into the car, I can't help but smile at how ridiculous I am most of the time. I ask Rob if he thinks it's a little bit funny. He doesn't at all at that particular moment. I have to bite my cheeks from laughing.

He reluctantly admits it's kinda funny later in the day.

Just another story to add to my repetoire.

If it wasn't so gross it would be kinda beautiful, no?

Devin's 1st meal!

Are those the chubbiest cheeks, or what?!?

I can do this all by myself

Still...nothing beats his thumb!

He's been wanting to eat real food for over a month now. He would stare, reach, make chewing motions...etc. whenever we'd have something to eat. The other day he actually grabbed my bowl of stew and pulled it so forcefully that it dumped all over my lap.

Well...I know he's a couple weeks shy of being 6 months (when all the experts say you should wait until starting solids), but we let him have his first delicious meal of rice cereal!

It was a success! Not surprisingly he loved it! He wanted more more more. And even grabbed the spoon from me and shoved it into his own mouth.

He's all growed up!

(sent to me via rob's iphone today)

you know you bought a doozy when you feel the need to don hazmat gear (even when it's bordering on 30 degrees in a non air conditioned house) in order to start demolition. check out the heavy duty mask.

let the breaking s**t begin...

our kitty house

"Kitty House" is what Hudson calls our new home (it's kinda hard not to notice a zillion cats living in a tiny space). This is the only picture I'll post of our new place for now. I refuse to let you see the interior...until I have the "after" photos to also post for you to see the transformation.
To be continued...

On a totally unrelated note:

This is what happens when you have two older, bored, male cousins...

Hudson's prized possesions (his Backyardigans buddies) were kidnapped and held hostage...kinda sad...and kinda hilarious at the same time, no?

Calypso Water Park

What a blast we all had at the brand new Calypso Water Park. It had enough kiddie things to keep Hudson entertained all day long. AND it had enough crazy scary adult slides to keep the rest of us entertained all day long. It wasn't cheap...I purposely didn't tell Rob how much it cost until we got there...but totally worth it!

Kiddie area that Hudson LOVED. Until Romy found some poo in the water, and I refused to let Hudson go back in.

WHEEE!

Can you imagine if you were caught on those stairs during this week's earthquake?!? Yikes they were scary enough to climb when the earth stands still. P.S. Rob is the only one of us that braved the Veritgo (the white slide in the background)!

Devin chillin like he does so well!

Edouard the Dare Devil went down the yellow slide you see in the background!

Victor, Kyle (Victor's friend), and Romy going down the "Race Track"

Me and Romy waiting in the wrong line for the ride we actually wanted to go down - which we obviously didn't know at the time this picture was taken. We had to butt-in line when we realized our mistake. Butting in line when you have to carry a 6 foot tube isn't too inconspicuous. By the way...I screamed the whole way down the slide. Scary fun.

End of wonderful day.
It was a great way to start off Summer 2010!
