Impromtu photo shoot

UPDATE: click here to see more pictures of us from Tiana of www.littlepixels.ca!

We were hanging out by the river in Perth this weekend, when this lady started making conversation about how cute and soft Bosco was. It led her to start snapping some pictures of him with this insane camera. When I pulled out OUR humble little digital Sony Cybershot to take some pictures of my boys...she offered to take some pictures of all of us with HER camera, with the promise of emailing them to us. Turned out she's a great photographer! http://littlepixels.ca True to her word, she emailed some today...and said there are a few more to come...

i've been so pleasantly surprised by perfect strangers.

the reality of my life

When one of your sons is a big, black, hairy, beast...
your Swiffer pads look like this...
EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
EVERY. SINGLE. DAY!

Hey...this thing smells like...me!

5 random's

Hudson already gets smelly feet. No more sweet, innocent baby toes...they are feet that sweat in his shoes, and get sticky and stinky.

Bosco begs for food EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. we eat. Begs like he's starving. The day he doesn't...we'll be driving like maniacs to the vet.

Our yard is 50% grass, 50% weeds. We have the worst lawn of the neighbourhood. I'm sure our neighbours talk about it behind our backs.

I met an old coworker for a playdate today...and 99% of our conversation was about our kids. Scary how I've become someone who I would've considered to be so "boring" before.

Hudson deliberately peed on Bosco. WTF.

Deceptively healthy muffins!

I have found the yummiest HEALTHY banana (chocolate-chip) muffin recipe EVER! Seriously, I am not a fan of healthy eating. If it doesn't taste good...I don't care how "good" it is for you...I probably won't eat it.

I found this recipe (modified it slightly...basically lessened the sugar, and added chocolate chips) and can't believe how yummy they are. I've made them numerous times, and watch in disbelief as Rob eats half a dozen in one sitting. TRY them!

Banana Cottage Cheese Muffins

1 cup of whole wheat flour
1/2 cup of oats (or you can use 1 1/2 cup of flour, I've made them both ways)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 ripe, mashed bananas
1/2 cup brown sugar (i've used less if adding chocolate chips)
1/4 cup melted butter
1 egg
1 cup of cottage cheese
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 375'. Line muffin tins with paper cups (I'm sure you can grease if you don't have cups, but I haven't tried it before).

Whisk dry ingredients in big bowl (minus the sugar). Combine wet ingredients (banana, cottage cheese, butter, egg, vanilla) in another bowl (with the sugar). Add wet ingredients to dry, and mix until just combined (don't overmix). Add chocolate chips at this point (I don't measure, but estimate 1/2 cup???). Pour in muffin tin, and bake for 18 min. (until muffins feel firm and springy). The cottage cheese adds protein and calcium, and makes them moist! And you can't taste that it's in there. They don't LOOK like gorgeous deli-style puffy muffins (they're pretty dense and small), but healthy and yummy...two words that don't often go together!

Such a "guy"

This is my 20 month old son chillin out in front of the TV...his head on his chair, leg up on the sofa...and yes that would be his hands down his diaper. Classic Al Bundy.

The nastiest way to start your day...

When you have a toddler...food often winds up on the floor. So this morning, when I bent down to pick up what looked like a half eaten, juicy, piece of mushy blueberry skin, I didn't give it a second thought. Only...once in my fingers...I realized that it wasn't a piece of chewed fruit...but a GODDAMN SLUG!!! SLUG! For someone who hates bugs...SLUGS are probably one of the nastiest! Wanna know what's worse than discovering you're holding a gross, snotty, gelatinous, insect? Having to FIND it again...because you flung it so violently off your hand.

I found it in the kitchen sink, and yes...screamed when I killed it.

Our cozy little abode

Here are some pictures of our current home...we've made it as "ours" as it can be, considering it's a rental. It's cozy and comfy...and really we don't need much else. I'm happy here.

Weekend Sleepover!

We had such a FUN (and LOUD...4 kids can make A LOT of noise!) weekend!!! Romy, Victor, Edouard, and my parents came for a visit. We went to the neighbourhood waterpark, BBQ'd some burgers, went for a walk, and most importantly...just hung out all together. Hudson LOVED it (to the point that he kept pointing to himself when they left, saying that he wanted to go too). My only complaint is that it was too short!

Hudson's Vocabulary

Hudson understands EVERYTHING! Seriously...everything. He recognizes all sorts of words, letters, shapes, colors, objects...etc. His speech? Ummmm...let's just say that he's learning. Slowly. Which I'm told is normal for boys (vs girls). But it's funny how the few words he does know (combined with some vigourous pointing and grunting) is all he needs to get his point across! He's one bossy dude.

P.S. He calls Bosco "Oof" (Woof).

P.P.S. "Bap" is Korean for "rice", and "Bang-goo" is Korean for "fart".

Rob's worst nightmare...

**UPDATE: That white frame was a whopping $2.00!!! I am debating whether to put a blackboard in the center, a corkboard, or pretty fabric and ribbon with pushpins. Thoughts?

I woke up early. Slathered Hudson with some sunscreen. Armed him with a sippy cup and some goldfish crackers. And headed out to scope out our neighbourhood garage sale.

I bought:

2 big black frames with cream mats

1 pretty white framed mirror (which is broken, but I plan to use the frame only anyway)

2 glass table lamps

1 crystal vase

1 spice rack (love the little drawers...don't think I'll really use it for spices though)

1 funky Christmas ornament (LOVE it)

1 dual condiment serving dish

4 children books (Robert Munsch, Sesame Street and Barney)

1 wooden puzzle (minus one piece, of course that Hudson keeps looking for...he can't let it go!)

And the grand total...

$19.50!!!

The only reason I stopped was because there wasn't anymore room in the stroller!

(seriously...this is Rob's worst nightmare. other people's junk is so NOT his treasures)

priorities

Me: "Hey Rob...don't eat anymore of the blackberries"
Rob" "Okay, how come?"
Me: "Because Hudson LOVES them"
Rob: "Okay"
Me: "Don't eat anymore of the strawberries either"

Good mama...not so good wife.

5 Randoms...

Today...

1. Hudson fell three seperate times. First, landing facefirst onto the corner of Bosco's wooden dogbed. Second, landing facefirst onto a plastic stepstool (you'd think plastic wouldn't do any damage, but it cut his eyebrow, cheek, and inside his mouth). And lastly, facefirst into the bathtub (empty, thank god), reaching for his rubber duckie. Yikes. Not his day.

2. I tried to make a healthy version of pancakes (using mainly cottage cheese and eggs, with just a smidgen of flour and sugar). They were gross. Healthy shemlthy. If it weren't for Rob, I would exist on anything fastfood, and Hudson would exist on Fruit Loops.

3. My parents left this morning after a quick visit. Hudson was so happy to see them. He brought them both their shoes (and the right ones too!) when it was time for them to go. They got a kick out of that!

4. The guy at Home Depot flirted with me. Funny how that doesn't happen when you have a toddler hanging off of you.

5. I missed my nieces' 5th Birthday Party...reminding me how much it sucks having family live in all different cities.

kinda settled...

Well...we've been in our new place in Ottawa for just over a week now...and we're almost all unpacked. It feels so good to be in our own place again. We're all mostly settled in. It took a little longer for Bosco (who kept trying to sleep in our bed with us...and yes...we let him), but even he's settled now. Yes it kinda sucks being in a rental again, after owning your own house...but it's a really nice rental. It's funny but last night we had a meat delivery (a farmer actually delivered some hormone and chemical-free-grass-fed beef right to our door), and he said something about seeing how the "other half" live (referring to our neighbourhood). We laughed out loud, telling him how far we are from being the "other half"!!! But, yes, we live in a nice, prestigious neighbourhood, right off of a golf and country club. I'll post some pictures as soon as our place looks a little neater.

yes...Hudson is actually sitting on Bosco. For real. He's getting to be quite the naughty toddler. Yesterday he kept screaming at the top of his lungs. So we kept saying "no screaming Hudson", only to have him scream in our face. When it was obvious that saying "no" wasn't working, every time he'd scream, we gave him a "time-out", making him stand in the corner. Then can you believe he screamed again...and then walked staight to the corner ALL BY HIMSELF, to give himself a time out?!? WTF?!?
